“BACK TO ASANA” Workshops Fall 2014 at Inner Power Yoga

BACK TO ASANA: JUMPING ON THE MAT! with Jean Marie

Sunday, SEPT 14 ~ 2-4 pm ~ $35

In this workshop we’ll look at refining the movement and breathing behind the sun salutations that set the tone for your entire practice – including a close look at our good friend chaturanga and the transitions between the sun salutation poses —and help set
the foundation for the fancier looking floaty moves on the IMG_1886mat.

You’ll gain a deeper understanding of what the heck all this jumping around in yoga is about, as well as a window into the basic movements that feed and nourish the fancier “floaty” ones. This workshop will give you tools to take into the classes you attend to progress your practice forward whether you are just beginning, firing your first jumps back into chaturanga from standing, or getting a little “air” here and there.

Jean Marie has been teaching yoga since graduating from teacher training in New York City back in 2010. Since then she’s taught in Boulder Colorado, Washington DC and now here in Virginia. She’s an avid ashtanga yoga practitioner and aims to share the wonderful knowledge she has gained from both the practice and its devoted teachers.

BACK TO ASANA: BAKASANA (CROW) POSE AND BEGINNING TO FLY with Jean Marie

Sunday, OCT 19 ~ 2-4 pm ~ $35

I’ll never forget attending class after vinyasa class completely in the dark as to how this “crow” pose was to happen. I would look at yogis balancing with their feet off the floor, wondering what mysterious mystical secrets they possessed that I didn’t. Today, it’s my favorite.

In this workshop we will examine this posture in detail, including preparatory work for getting into it, and for those who have had this arm balance down for a while, we’ll further explore how to evolve your crow beyond into flight– there is always someplace to grow.

We’ll also delve into the fun of jumping back into chaturanga from crow, as well as jumping into it from downward dog. This is a pose fuels your flight for a journey that never ends. Let’s go together!
